Le Petit Prince {The Little Prince}

Le Petit Prince - Here's a book that speaks to everyone. A book that's a must-read. Inspiring and beautiful, it was written in 1943 by French aviator Saint-Exupéry. It has been translated in over 180 languages with various versions of illustrations. The original had the illustrations by the author himself. 
It is said that the book is inspired by a real account of Expuery's life where he and his navigator had crashed in the Sahara and were only discovered after the fourth day of surviving with very little water, no food and completely dehydrated. They were in a bad condition and it is said that after the second day in the dessert they were both `seeing things' - mirages, hallucinations..
The fox character likely was inspired by his encounter of seeing a desert fox during this time.

“I know a planet where there is a certain red-faced gentleman. He had never smelled a flower. He has never looked at a star. He has never loved any one. He has never done anything in his life but   add up figures.”



... when someone blushes, doesn't that mean "yes"? 


"The proof that the little prince existed is that he laughed, and that the he was looking for a sheep. If anybody wants a sheep, that is a proof that he exists."

Grown-ups like numbers. When you tell them about a new friend, they never ask questions about what really matters. They never ask: "What does his voice sound like?" "What games does he like best?" "Does he collect butterflies?". They ask: "How old is he?" "How many brothers does he have?" "How much does he weigh?" "How much money does his father make?" Only then do they think they know him.

If you tell grown-ups, "I saw a beautiful red brick house, with geraniums at the windows and doves on the roof...," they won't be able to imagine such a house. You have to tell them, "I saw a house worth a hundred thousand francs." Then they exclaim, "What a pretty house!"
